Greetings from Tokyo

I'm sitting in the Narita airport waiting for my flight. God Bless wireless internet. It was 500 Yen for the day, I have no clue what that is US, but it can't be too bad. (I was offered a duty-free Tiffany necklace on the plane - 14000 Yen and I know that was $130 - no I didn't buy it!) Where else can you shop on your flight and actually touch and feel the merchandise?! The Tiffany necklace didn't have the storage pouch, makes me wonder if it was authentic. I would imagine it would be, but you never can be too sure.

I have three hours left to spare and there's not much to look at in here except for dried fish that they try to sell as a snack - yummy.

Since I'm bored and I know you're dying to read more about my trip, I'll tell you about my flight.

I have never seen a plane where 40+ people can sit in business class. BUT the seats rocked. They are these bubble seats that move to a flat position (or at least pretty darn close). I had my own tv screen with on-demand movies (the selection was blah), games and music.

We were delayed on the tarmac for an hour because of bad weather but got off okay. It was an 11 hour and 50 minute flight (once in the air). I fell asleep for a little while then ate my "western" style dinner. It was 5 courses, I was stuffed. I watched a movie while I ate and then drifted off to sleep for what felt like forever - it was only 2 hours.

They gave us these wool blend blankets and I never thought I had any issues with wool. But when we were sitting on the tarmac I had the blanket tucked up under my chin. It became hard to breath and my throat felt weird. My neck started to itch. I thought I was imagining things, but when I took the blanket off the symptoms went away. Very odd. Later I discovered that I could have the blanket on my body, just not near my arms and face.

My tv screen had a map of our travels, so I could see where we were (perhaps what you saw Klayton?). I slept on and off, watched some more movies. I probably got about 7 hours of sleep total. We were supposed to get two meals, you could order off a menu after the first meal was served, but I was too full to eat again. These guys around me were on their 3rd and 4th meals, where were they stashing this food? They were as thin as toothpicks.

I eneded my flight with some yummy ice cream, it hit the spot, nice and cool. I'm putting this picture up for Daniel...I can hear him now "oh it's so small and cute"

(BTW I did have someone sitting next to me, I just waited to take the picture when he was in the bathroom so he didn't think I was a nut).

I sat across from a Japanese version of Shaun Hoover, only ab0ut 10 years older, it made me giggle. The flight staff on JAL is SOOOOO nice....they smile all the time and will bring you something right away. I asked for a bottle of water when I was near the galley. She said they were out. About 30 minutes she brought me a bottle she had found. I'm amazed she remembered, but then again I was the only mexican pretending to be white woman in the business class section =)

All and all it wasn't a bad flight. Just when I started to get bored I would go to sleep. Went much faster than I thought.

I wish there was more of a view of Tokyo from the airport, but it's still interesting to look at. The airport is very hot and muggy, but you adjust after a while. It's kind of odd to look out the window and know that I'm 11,000 miles away from home, back home everyone is sleeping. Somewhere out those windows Greg S is busy working.

Well I think I've probably put everyone to sleep with the random ramblings of my flight. I did get an email from my classmate, Erin. She was supposed to be in Hong Kong when I landed in Tokyo. Apparently her flight from Chicago was cancelled, they sat on the tarmac for five hours and it turns out the wing was leaking fuel. So I'll be exploring HK on my own until Saturday night. Apparently this weekend is the shopping festival in HK - look out!

:)

PS Thanks to everyone for your comments! I love reading them.

Glad your flight was swell - Take your toothbrush out more during your next flight so it can take some pictures to send me back to me in the states, and it wouldn't hurt brushing your teeth after 12 hours on a flight, half sleeping the rest just eating, poor guy sitting next to you now we know why he was up and in the restroom - bad breath.

well your third flight just left for Hong Kong. - K
