29 hours later
I'm in Hong Kong. It took me 29 hours from when I stepped into the Indianapolis airport until I walked in to the Rosedale on the Park hotel in Causeway Bay HK.My flight from Tokyo to HK was fine. A little over 4 hours. I got another meal (but it had been about 12 hours since I last ate) which was not as good as the first, but still good. I watched all most all of Big Mama's house 2, but fell asleep before it ended. I caught myself laughing outloud on the plane - I wonder if my fellow passengers laughed at my outbursts. To put it nicely, we all know I have a unique laugh.
It only took me about 30 minutes to get through customs. Thank goodness that the bathrooms in the airport are western style. I was not in the mood to make my first attempt at the Chinese toilets (a.k.a. hole in the ground). I took a bus from the airport to the hotel - the long way but I got to see a lot of HK.
The hotel is very nice. The rooms are TINY. Which I knew they would be, but it caught me a little off guard none-the-less. When I walked into the room I couldn't get the lights to turn on. I tried every switch and couldn't figure it out. I know I'm half way around the world, but it shouldn't be that difficult to turn on the flippin' light! Then I noticed a lit key slot. So for shits n' giggles I put my room card in the slot. Ka-ching! The lights came on. I put the key on the desk and sat down on the bed to take it all in. Poof! The lights go out again. So put the key in and check the room out. Bam, lights out again! This time I finally get smart and left the key in the slot and the lights have been on ever since. You'd think there would be something saying that's how you turn on the lights. There is one english channel on the tv, the Discovery channel, so at least there is something to watch!

I tried calling my mom, after 3 failed attempts I finally got through.. It was good to hear a familiar voice. It probably cost me a small fortune for those mistakes! I went to plug in my laptop and I realized that my converter isn't able to accept a three prong plug for my laptop. Luckily the hotel had one.
Erin & Mike will be here in about 12 hours. I think I'm going to go to the gym to try to wear off this extra energy and hopefully go to sleep.

My dream was to see Hong Kong and the Orient. I'm glad you have the chance to see it my sweet granddaughter.
(written by mom as grandma couldn't figure out how to write you...but she read your blog)
I've heard of shot in the dark...but "slot in the dark"? Guess there's different ways to light up the world. That room reminds me of our first trip to London on our way to Ghana in 1965. The Royal Hotel...your Aunt Suzy remembers it...the bathrooms were down the hall. At 12 years old I decided to sleep on the floor in Mom and Suz's room!
we want a picture of the slot :-)
